Privacy Policy

WalkUp Songs ("the App") is a walk-up song player for baseball, softball, and kickball teams, available for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Android. This policy explains what data the App keeps, what it sends to other services and why, and the choices you have.

1. Summary

You don't need an account. Your teams, players, and songs are stored on your device. The App sends data to other services only to do things you ask for (such as generating a spoken player name or playing a song), to show ads in the free version, and to count anonymous app usage, which you can turn off.

2. Data stored on your device

The App stores the following on your device:

  • Teams and players: team names, player names, jersey numbers, positions, and batting order that you enter.
  • Song choices: references to songs from Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube, or files on your device, with start times and other walk-up settings.
  • Voice recordings: if you record an intro with the microphone, the recording is saved on your device. The App doesn't upload recordings.
  • Generated audio: spoken player names and cheer songs you create (see section 5) are saved on your device.
  • Settings: app preferences such as playback length and announcer options.

Audio files you pick from your device are played on your device and aren't uploaded.

3. iCloud sync (iPhone and iPad)

If you turn on iCloud in the App's settings, your teams, players, and audio files are stored in your own iCloud account so they're available on your other devices signed in to the same Apple Account. We can't access your iCloud data. Apple's handling of it is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy. You can turn iCloud sync off at any time in the App's settings.

On Android, Android's own device backup may copy the App's data to your Google account if you've turned that backup on. We can't access that data either.

4. Anonymous usage statistics

The App uses TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service based in the EU, to count how the App is used so we can improve it.

What is sent:

  • Events such as "app opened", "game started", "inning break played", and "team created"
  • Counts and choices, such as the number of players in a lineup or the kind of song source picked (for example, Apple Music or a file)
  • The App version, device type, and operating system version
  • A random identifier created on your device and scrambled (hashed) before it's sent, so it can't be traced back to you

What is not sent: player names, team names, jersey numbers, song titles, artists, your location, or advertising identifiers. The App removes any other details before sending.

5. AI voice intros and cheer songs

Premium announcer voices can say each player's name. When you generate a spoken name or a cheer song, the App sends the text to be spoken (for example, the player's name, and a name suffix you chose) to a text-to-speech service, which returns an audio file:

Only the text is sent; no other team details, recordings, or contact information. These requests happen only when you choose to generate audio. Player names are often children's names, so generate spoken names only for players whose families are comfortable with it. The free device voice (the voice built into your phone) works on your device and sends nothing.

6. Music services

Apple Music. On iPhone and iPad, the App uses Apple's MusicKit to search for and play songs. Searches and playback are handled by Apple. We don't access your listening history or library.

Spotify. On iPhone and iPad, if you connect a Spotify account, the App uses Spotify's Web API to search for songs and control playback. Your Spotify sign-in tokens are stored in the device Keychain. On Android, song searches are sent to Spotify without signing in to your account. We don't access your Spotify listening history, playlists, or profile. You can disconnect Spotify at any time in the App's settings.

YouTube (Android). The Android App can find and play songs from YouTube. Your searches and the videos you pick are sent to YouTube to play them. If you choose to sign in to YouTube in the App, you sign in on Google's own page; the sign-in is stored on your device and is used only to play songs from YouTube.

What these services do with your requests is covered by their own privacy policies.

7. Sharing teams and players

When you share a team or player as a link, file, or QR code, the shared item contains the team's details, such as player names, jersey numbers, and song choices. Links point to walkupsongs.app and carry those details in the link itself. Anyone who has the link can see them, so share only with people you trust. We don't save the contents of shared links.

8. Song list updates

The App may download an updated list of suggested songs from walkupsongs.app. Only the download request is made; the App doesn't send any of your data with it.

9. Purchases

In-app purchases and subscriptions are processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We don't receive your payment details. The App checks with the store which purchases you own so it can turn on Premium features.

10. Advertising

The free version of the App shows ads from Google AdMob. To show ads, measure them, and prevent fraud, AdMob may collect:

  • Your IP address and the general location it implies
  • Information about how you interact with ads
  • Device and app details, and diagnostic data
  • On Android, your device's advertising ID

On iPhone and iPad, the App doesn't ask for permission to track you, so ads don't use your device's advertising identifier. On Android, you can reset or delete your advertising ID in your device's settings. On Android, the App doesn't show ads to accounts that Google identifies as supervised (for example, a child's account managed by a parent).

Premium removes ads; after that, no advertising data is collected. For more information, see Google's Privacy Policy and how Google uses information from apps that use its services.

11. Children's privacy

The App is made for coaches, parents, and families to use, not for children to sign up for. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. Team details that coaches enter, which may include children's names, stay on the coach's device unless the coach chooses to sync, share, or generate spoken names as described above. Coaches are responsible for following their league's rules about players' information.

12. Your choices and deleting your data

  • Delete teams and players in the App, or delete the App, to remove the data on your device.
  • Turn off iCloud sync in the App's settings, and manage the App's iCloud data in your device's settings.
  • Turn off usage statistics in the App's advanced settings (see section 4).
  • Disconnect Spotify in the App's settings, or sign out of YouTube in the App on Android.
  • Email us to ask about any data held by the services in this policy; we'll help where we can.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the App changes. Changes are posted on this page with a new effective date.
